“OK, Cheese. Place the short glass on the table. Mack, color the sheet of paper to look like a volcano.” directed Dad. “I have the baking soda, vinegar and the food coloring (red and yellow) ready.”

“Red and yellow make orange! Did you know that, Dad?” asked Cheese.

“I sure did, son.” replied Dad.

“Done!” said Mack showing off his volcano landscape artwork.

“OK, here we go guys. I am gonna tape Mack’s landscape to the glass, so now it looks like a volcano.” said Dad.

“I’m gonna put 4 scoops of baking soda and 4 drops of red food coloring into the glass.” announced Cheese. “DONE!”

“OK, hold on a second, Mack. Don’t pour the vinegar yet. We need to make predictions for our scientific method.” said Dad.
“Cheese, what do you think will happen when Mack pours the yellow vinegar into the baking soda glass?”

Cheese shrugged, “I don’t know.”

“What do you think, Mack?” asked Dad.

“Umm. It’s gonna turn into orange water?” said Mack.

“Close.” said Dad. “Go ahead and pour it in.”

Mack poured the yellow liquid into the glass. A couple of seconds later, ornge smoke and bubbles came pouring out of the volcano.

The boys were amazed. “Whoa! Look at that!”
